Rohevik 2016 "Waste-free welfare societies"

The Rohevik 2016 forum invites you to exchange ideas and experiences on sharing economy and waste management.

The goal of the forum is to look at how to adapt and manage our lives in such a way that puts minimum strain on the environment while also having distinctive personal and social benefits.

With the help of participants from Estonia, Sweden, Germany and Finland, we will look at these issues from three points of view: leadership, community and entrepreneurship.

We will look at how to build a waste-free society. It is no secret that a large part of the western world wastes energy, food and other resources. We often let things go without using them, buying something but failing to use it to its full potential. And at the same time we are trying to save a perishing ecosystem. Every EU citizen generates about 0.5 tons of waste on average every year (Americans generate even more than that). Every year, over 2 billions tons of waste are deposited all over the world and the number of consumers is on the rise.

All this while we could be living in a society where resources are recycled through sharing, reprocessing, reusing and repurposing, creating a more integral value chain and supporting social cohesion. ‘Waste’ merely signals that we are foolish for not taking action.
