Nordic-Baltic public sector grant scheme helps put ideas into action

Wednesday, 12 February 2014

Do you work in the public sector in the Nordic countries or Baltic States? Do you have a fantastic idea for Nordic-Baltic collaboration? Are you eager to learn from your colleagues and analyse their success stories, but you don't know who to contact in the region?

The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration supports the collaboration of civil servants and other staff in the public sector in the Nordic countries, the region's three autonomous areas (Greenland, the Faroe Islands and the Åland Islands) and the Baltic States. Both groups and individual applicants are welcome to apply for funding for shorter study visits, longer internships and network activities.

In order to obtain funding your project should involve partners from at least three countries: Nordic applicants should visit a minimum of two Baltic countries, while Baltic applicants should visit partners in at least two Nordic countries.

Searching for a partner

Finding the right partner and making arrangements can turn out to be more challenging and time-consuming than you expect. For this reason you should start on your application in good time via the user-friendly online platform NB8 Grants. Read the guidelines carefully and enter the system as a user. Please note that you don't have to fill in and submit the application all in one go – you can take it step by step until the deadline, which is 30 March 2014.

Starting from this year all project managers can search for potential project partners through the application platform. Sign in to the system, post your idea with suggestions for cooperation or read other people's proposals. You can get in touch with your colleagues yourself or they can contact you. However, the programme administrator assumes no liability for the results of collaboration searches.

Example project

Experts on national dietary surveys from all eight countries in the Nordic-Baltic region met in Tallinn, Estonia in October 2013 to share best practices and seek solutions to common challenges.

"The most important outcome of this collaboration is enhancing skills and strengthening the work of these countries with dietary surveys," explains nutritionist Anna Karin Lindroos PhD from the National Food Administration of Sweden. "This is a narrow area and we can learn a lot from each other by exchanging experiences. By using similar methods we will be able to compare data across the different countries, share technical solutions and also send country-specific data to the EFSA." Continue reading here.
