The 66th session of the Nordic Council will be held in Stockholm from 28-30 October 2014. Representatives of Russia have been invited to attend this year's summit. In the view of the Nordic Council it is important to maintain dialogue with Russian MPs despite the fact that it considers Russia's aggression in Ukraine and its infringements of other countries' borders unacceptable.

Senior politicians from all of the Nordic countries – including ministers and opposition leaders – as well as members of parliaments and opinion-leadres will be attending the annual session.

The main topic of discussion at the session will be how the Nordic countries can work more effectively together in the fields of education, integration and the labour market. International security (Ukraine, IS et al.) will of course also be on the agenda. The ministers of finance from the Nordic countries will be answering questions posed to them by the parliamentarians on the morning of 29 October.

The prime ministers of the Nordic countries and Baltic States traditionally meet on the evening before the sesssion and give a joint press conference.

One of the most eagerly awaited events that takes place as part of the session is the prizes gala of the Nordic Council, which this year will be held on the evening of 29 October and which will be aired by all of the national broadcasters in the Nordic countries.

Prizes will be presented in five categories: literature; children's and young adult literature; film; music; and nature and the environment. More information about the Nordic Council prizes and this year's nominees can be found here.

Anyone interested in the summit can follow it on social media. Journalists will find the information they need here.

The Nordic Council is the official cooperative body of the parliaments of the Nordic countries. The Nordic governments cooperate officially on the Nordic Council of Ministers, which has been represented in Estonia since spring 1991.
