The Nordic Council of Ministers’ Offices in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2016. During the last 25 years we have met many interesting people who are helping to move the Nordic and Baltic region forward.

We asked 21 people from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – seven from each country – to share their ideas for the future and special moments that relate to the Nordic countries. During the second half of 2016, you will be able to watch and listen to their video stories on our Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages. We gave everyone the chance to speak in their native language and added English subtitles to the videos. You can find the videos under the tag #NordicBaltic25.

Randomly chosen first speaker is Richard Bærug, who was the director of the Nordic Council of Ministers Information Office in Latvia from 1991-1996. Originally from Norway, Richard decided to stay in Latvia. He speaks the beautiful Latvian language and now works as a businessman. He also has a connection with Estonia as he is currently studying for a doctorate in Media and Communication at the University of Tartu.

Among other things, Richard appreciates politicians who refrain from populism and are not afraid to stand their ground even if most people do not understand their position immediately or are frightened by it.
