Ring by Margareth SandströmThe Netherlands-rooted Peter de Wit and Swedish Margareth Sandström established their own jewellery business back in the 1970s, during a time of breaking taboos in art jewellery. Even during their studies in Germany they joined the avant-garde jewellery movement and continued to practice this later living in the Netherlands. Their works are exhibited and preserved in several museums and private collections all over the world. As entrepreneurs, these artists are very successful.
At the meeting on 7th January 2009, one could hear about how they have managed to combine doing business and creating artwork. In addition de Wit gave a five-day lecture course at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Every student who participated in the masters’ course, called “Simplicity in Gold”, got ten grams of gold and the task of turning it into a piece of jewellery.
