Narva Community Hackathon

he City of Narva in cooperation with Objekt.is and Garage48 is organizing a Narva Community Hackathon, i.e. a 48-hour development weekend on 14-16 May 2021 to create solutions for the challenges the residents of Narva are facing in their daily lives.
The aim of the Garage48 Narva Community Hackathon is to create first versions / prototypes of various services and products, initiatives, events, community activities, new organizations, business ideas, systems and concepts for the living environment of Narva and to solve challenges through teamwork and mentoring, co-thinking and collaboration.
Participants of the hackathon are residents of Narva, people originating from Narva and friends of Narva who want to contribute to the development of Narva with their skills and experience. Local entrepreneurs, Estonian and international specialists and mentors from Garage48 network will join as mentors.
CHALLENGES:
- Green Deal - fair transition of Ida-Virumaa; energy policy; insulation of houses; garbage management and sorting;
- Urban Space - user-friendly and beautiful courtyards; the potential of Kreenholm district;
- Community - human-centered and accessible social services; equal opportunities of development for children with special needs; promoting the mobility of 8000 disabled people in Narva; 5000 lonely retirees in isolation and lack of communication;
- Entrepreneurship - 1000 young people to Narva!; Narva's new tourist attraction and/or service; integration of 4000 unemployed and new business opportunities.
In cooperation with co-organizers, mentors and challenge partners, thematic tracks will be added and participants are invited to suggest solutions in other categories most important to them. One of the mentors is our sustainable development adviser Madis Tilga.
The hackathon will take place on 14-16 May 2021 as a hybrid event - both participants and mentors can join virtually or a limited number of participants at Objekt. If necessary, the whole event takes place virtually.
Garage48 has been organizing hackathons and idea garages for 11 years and has hosted more than 200 events in 28 countries, resulting in more than 1500 ideas presented and more than 800 prototypes pitched, including solutions in the areas of empowering youth and women, community development, circular economy and climate sustainability, smart cities, education and social entrepreneurship.
The hackathon is happening in Estonian and Russian and if need be also in English.
The deadline for participation is the 10th of May 2021!
