Creative EstoniaCreative Estonia and the Estonian Ministry of Culture are inviting everyone interested to attend a seminar entitled "How do cultural events influence regional development?" which will present the findings of the recent study into the impact of the Viljandi Guitar Festival. Those attending the seminar will hear about experiences in the Tampere region of Finland and will work together to find answers to the questions: who does the organisation of cultural events benefit? Do cultural events have an economic effect on a region? And how can this be measured?

Hundreds of cultural and sporting events are held in Estonia every year which not only enrich the country's cultural life and provide entertainment but also have a significant impact on the local economy. The organisation of these events boosts recognition of the locations hosting them and promotes tourism, bringing direct benefits to business operators, particularly service providers.

Speaking at the seminar will be Susanna Markkola (Tampere Region Festivals), Marje Josing (Estonian Conjuncture Institute), Anzori Barkalaja (Viljandi Cultural Academy), Külliki Tafel-Viia (Estonian Institute for Futures Studies), Jorma Sarv (Ministry of Culture) and others.

The seminar is being supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia.

Date and time: 6 December 2010 at 12:00
Venue: Viljandi Cultural Academy, Posti 1, Viljandi (the seminar will be held in auditorium 221 on the 2nd floor)
Participation: free of charge. Refreshments will be offered. Registration is open until 3 December by e-mailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
