Nordic-Baltic Environmental Impact Assessment Conference 2012More than ten years have passed since the impact assessment experts in the Baltic Sea region last came together. Therefore, the need to dispute on current trends in the field of impact assessment is actively present. What is discussed today in connection to impact assessment theory and practice will influence the decisions made tomorrow, and the quality of life for years to follow.

The subjects covered in the conference will be:

  • Principles and practice of impact assessment (IA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA), also social and economic impacts;
  • Addressing climate change in EIA (environmental impact assessment) and SEA;
  • Cross-regional cooperation;
  • Integration of health in IA;
  • Strategic planning and SEA usage in the energy sector;
  • IA in marine areas, sea planning and SEA.

The goal of environmental impact assessment is to identify possible changes in the environment at an early stage of development, to mitigate or eliminate negative effects and make best use of positive changes. Various subjects are covered in impact assessment, ranging from human health and well-being to sustainable use of resources. All parties possibly influenced are involved in the process, which is led by experts and specialist.

Nordic-Baltic region IA conference 2012 will enhance cooperation and exchange of impact assessment theory and practice experiences in the region, greatly contributing to the quality of environmental decision-making in the Nordic-Baltic region.

The event is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia.
