Sweden chair of Nordic Council of Ministers in 2008

Sweden has taken over the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The chair rotates betwen the five Nordic member states. The Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has picked out four main themes for the year: Competitivness, creativity, climate and coordination. The main events in 2008 will focus on these four C:s.

As Sweden holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers this year the country is also looking with a brand new sense of openness at the opportunities for co-operation on defence and security policy, Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt wrote in Dagens Nyheter in an article under the heading "Now is the time to turn the EU into a military power for peace". Sweden, Finland and Denmark started a defence cooperation January 1st, 2008.
