Discussions of equal opportunities are becoming more and more heated in Estonia. However, the question of what dealing with this would give to our companies has not been answered yet. The So what? conference, which invites people to discuss whether valuing diversity and equal opportunities in management would help Estonian companies achieve new competitive advantages, will be held from 1 pm to 5 pm on 20 November at Swissôtel, Tallinn.

The Estonian e-state and the efficiency resulting from digitalisation as well as the simplicity of the organisation of life are our strength and advantage. At the same time, Estonia is at the top of the gender pay gap rankings in Europe - there are many women in our organisations, but few of them make it to senior management and the share of women in the Riigikogu has not changed in 15 years. If we want our standard of living to become as high as in the Nordic countries, we must also be open to changes in the management and organisational culture.

“We invite the decision-makers in Estonia to give more attention to the diversity and equal treatment of workers,” says Director of the Nordic Council of Ministers Christer Haglund. “Companies that are open to differences are more successful in global competition,” adds Director of the Finnish Institute in Estonia Anu Laitila.

The discussion at the So what? conference is opened by Minister of Social Affairs and Equality of Iceland Ásmundur Einar Daðason; Risto E. J. Penttilä (Nordic West Office, Finland), Christian Berg (Allbright Stiftung), Sara Salmani (Miltton), Marina Kaljurand, Larissa Shabunova (Fortaco Eesti OÜ) and others.

Participation in the conference is by invitation only. For further information about the event, go to www.norden.ee, www.finst.ee.

The conference is organised by the Estonian Office of the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Finnish Institute in Estonia, and the partners are Hanaholmen – Swedish-Finnish Cultural Centre, the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Nordic chambers of commerce and industry, The Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation, Miltton, Nordic embassies in Estonia, the Embassy of Iceland in Helsinki.
