"The statement from the Nordic heads of government and USA's President after yesterday's meeting shows a broad joint commitment to the environment, climate and development, as well as dialogue on security policy," says the General Secretary of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Dagfinn Høybråten.

"Several of these themes will be followed up in priority ventures from the Nordic Council of Ministers in the coming years," says Høybråten.

The Nordic heads of state and government and President Obama underlined in their statement, amongst other things, the importance of encouraging innovative approaches to enhance energy efficiency and clean energy, including renewable energy sources, and the importance of acting both nationally and globally in relation to climate change.

The Nordic Council of Ministers is currently pursuing the Nordic prime ministers' initiative "Green Growth The Nordic Way", which comprises eight sub-projects on, amongst others, co-operation on development of technology norms and standards, co-operation on education and research related to green growth and promotion of integration of environmental and climate considerations into development aid co-operation.
