The first Nordic-Baltic meeting on disability policy and practice was held in Tallinn, Estonia on November 12-13th. Participants gave an overview of country policies and practices and discussed possibile co-operation projects.

The meeting aimed to provide a platform for cooperation and networking between the Nordic and Baltic countries within disability policy and practice issues. Participants of the meeting included representatives from the Nordic Welfare Centre, Baltic ministries and associations of people of disabilities.

During the meeting the Nordic Welfare Centre, who is coordinating the cooperation in the field in the Nordic countries, presented three upcoming projects that are open for the Nordic-Baltic cooperation. Participants also got an overview of the workings of Nordic Disability Council that consists of 16 experts, half of whom are experts appointed by the governments of the Nordic countries and half by the countries’ disability organisations.

Thorough presentations were given by representatives from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania showing their current activities in the field.

During the last discussion all of the 26 participants of the meeting had an opportunity to comment and suggest ideas for future cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries. These suggestions will be used in planning new N-B joint projects and activities.
