Borderland Narva – Gränsland Narva – Нарвский Рубеж

To shed light upon Narva’s historical bonds with Sweden and its status as a border area throughout history, scholars from Sweden, Finland, and Estonia will meet in Narva 12 to 13 November under the theme “Borderland Narva”. The event is organized in connection with the annual historical festival in Narva and also includes a cultural program with invited artists from Sweden.

Programme

The conference part of the event will take place at Narva College on Friday (15:30 – 18:00) and at Narva castle on Saturday (10:00 – 12:00) and includes eight lectures: five in Swedish, two in Russian, and one in English (see programme above).

Saturday’s conference is followed by the cultural program:

  • 13:00 – 14:45 Concert, Narva Castle, Reconditorium
    Swedish and Estonian music and songs performed by Swedish and Estonian artists
  • 15:00 – 15:25 Historical fencing at the Narva Fortress (Narva Castle’s Western Yard)
    Historical fencing with the Adelsfanan society and Swedish king Charles XII (Carolus Rex) from the Great Northern War.
  • 16:00 Historical battle at the Narva Fortress (Narva Castle’s Western Yard)
    A historical reenactment of the battle the year 1700 between the Swedish and Russian armies.

For interested students, scholars, and teachers at the University of Tartu, a Tartu-Narva-Tartu bus trip is organized on Saturday November 13, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers in Estonia.
