The Pan-Fenno-Ugrian Days will be ushered in with an exhibition by the Estonian National Museum on the Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples in the foyer of the Academic Library of Tallinn University from 9 to 31 October. The exhibition will be accompanied, in cooperation with the Baltic Department, by a book display examining the history of Finno-Ugric studies through travel writing and research.

Starting on 12 October a large number of Finno-Ugric folk musicians and writers will be arriving in Estonia who will be travelling around the country performing at concerts and appearing at literary evenings in schools, community centres and libraries.

In addition to Udmurt, Mari, Khant and Karjala village players, professional folk music ensembles will also be performing: Sami instruments and the ‘yoik’ will be showcased by the group Fadnu from Norway, while the group Burlakat from Finland will be presenting Karjala Finnish music, and traditional Hungarian instrumental music will be performed by Buda Folk Band. You can find out more about the Nordic music at the Pan-Fenno-Ugrian Days here (in Estonian).

The main event of the Pan-Fenno-Ugrian Days is the series of concerts being held at the end of the week: at 6.00 pm on 15 October in the great hall of the University of Tartu; and at 6.00 pm on 18 October at the Folk Music Centre in Viljandi. Between 2.00 pm and 8.00 pm on Saturday 17 October, the Pirita Flower Pavilion in Tallinn will be hosting one big Pan-Fenno-Ugrian Days involving all visitors at which you will not only hear some great music but also have the opportunity to learn new dances, find out more about the Finno-Ugric societies operating in Estonia, buy Finno-Ugric CDs and books and try some of the best Finno-Ugric national dishes and cuisine.

The full schedule of the Pan-Fenno-Ugrian Days, which is being regularly updated, can be found here. Find out more about the Pan-Fenno-Ugrian Days here (in Estonian).
