The Nordic Council of Ministers and the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry invite everyone interested to attend a business seminar being held at the chamber’s offices in Tallinn (Toom-Kooli 17) at 10:00 on 24 October. Why are states and companies investing more and more in the bioeconomy? Because it represents the next wave of economic development.

The value of Europe’s bioeconomy has been estimated at two trillion euros. Finland is making substantial investments in its bioeconomy and hopes to create 100,000 new jobs, while Latvia plans to increase the value of its bioeconomy to 12 billion euros over the next decade. The bioeconomy is an innovative and responsible form of enterprise that focuses on producing renewable biological resources and their transformation into new materials and bio-products, as well as food, feed and energy. In order to alleviate climate change and the burden on the environment, the transition to the considered use of resources – which is to say to the bioeconomy – is unavoidable. Basing itself on agriculture and forestry, but also on the construction, textiles, fishing and pharmaceutical industries, the bioeconomy makes production more effective, more profitable and more sustainable. The greatest potential for innovation is often seen in the all-encompassing nature of the bioeconomy, which enables new products and value chains to be created in cooperation between sectors. Digital solutions also play a significant role here.

The speakers we have invited from Estonia and the Nordic countries to take part in the seminar will be talking about approaches to the bioeconomy and new business opportunities. Nordic experiences will be shared by Pia Strunge from Denmark and Ali Harlin from Finland.
