Major literary events in the Finnish-Estonian poetry landscape

At the beginning of November, we invite everyone to literary meetings presenting Paavo Haavikko's work "Collected Poems". The meetings will take place on November 2nd at 6 pm at the Tartu Literature House and on Wednesday, November 3rd at 6 pm in Tallinn, in the black-ceilinged hall of the Writers' House (Harju 1).

This is a major event in the Finnish-Estonian poetry landscape: the entire poetry of Finnish modernist poetry classic Paavo Haavikko (1931–2008) is published in Estonian in one volume of more than 900 pages. The book "Collected Poems" was published by EKSA.

The pieces have been translated by renowned Estonian poetry translators from several generations: Kai Aareleid, Ivar Grünthal, Kätlin Kaldmaa, Kaja Kallemets, Jan Kaus, Lauri Kitsnik, Tiiu Kokla, Hasso Krull, Asko Künnap, Minni Nurme, Kajar Pruul, Jürgen Rooste, Paul-Eerik Rummo, Piret Saluri, Joel Sang, Debora Vaarandi, Elo Viiding and Julius Ürt.

Literary Tuesday in Tartu

At the presentation of the book, the poet's son Heikki Haavikko and the Finnish writer and literary critic Joni Pyysalo will talk about their connections with Paavo Haavikko. Discussing the translation of Paavo Haavikko´s poetry and reading poems will be Kai Aarele, Heidi Iivari, Kätlin Kaldmaa, Jan Kaus and Jürgen Rooste. Marge Loik will perform Finnish music on the piano. The evening is moderated by Siim Lill.
