Morten Viks

Go and watch the play 'Morten on the Ship of Fools' by VAT Theatre and Kuressaare City Theatre to see these fun adventures. The play is based on the children's book 'Adventure on Salamander' by Kaspar Jancis, and it premiered on 1 August in Sadamaait in Kuressaare. The programme describes it as a family show filled with circus and music.

This theatre project received support from the Nordic Culture and Art Programme.

The adventures, which last for an hour and fifteen minutes, entertain and excite both children and adults. The hall is filled to the rafters. Mums and dads are smiling happily, the children only have eyes for the stage, there is spontaneous applause. The tuba and the saxophone are perfect to accompany a sailing boat, but there are also other instruments that form the entertaining band Kriminaalne Elevant, and there are musical phrases that keep going around in your heard for a long time after the show.

The main character in the play is Morten Viks with his toy boat. One day, he tastes a magic drink and play suddenly turns into reality. The first thing young captain Viks has to do is assemble a crew and then he has to keep them in check. Strong characters like the Cockroach, the Grasshopper, the Ladybird, the Spider, and Zig and Zag the wasps are not exactly obedient.

The stage is full of crashing and banging, water and smoke, climbing and tricks. There is contortion and juggling, tension and suspension, even fear and terror. The play is fast-paced and the use of different media gives it depth and variety. The animations shown in the video complement the action and movement on stage. Nothing is out of place, nothing overshadows anything else - all parts complement each other and make the story easier to understand.

The actors are clearly enjoying themselves and there is a visible chemistry between them. The same chemistry is radiating from the guest performers, young circus artists Liisa Angberg from Sweden and Kaj-Mikael Schütt from Finland. There is an ensemble of actors on stage, who are clearly enjoying what they're doing. They understand and support each other, which creates this good energy.

A long voyage is awaiting Morten Viks and his Salamander. The captain's binoculars pick out new destinations - the first stop is Hiiumaa, followed by Aland and Turku.

Ship ahoy, Captain!
