Taking up the post of Communications Adviser at the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia on 25 March 2019 was Angelika Lebedev, who previously worked as a public relations adviser at the Ministry of Agriculture.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting new people and seeing what new situations I find myself in,” Angelika said. “It’s my chance to contribute to making cooperation between Estonia and the Nordic countries even smoother through communication. The issues the office deals with are ones I consider important as well, so I’m happy that I’ll get to help in raising awareness of them among the public. Take one of this year’s biggest keywords for starters – sustainability.”

Angelika has a great deal of experience in both the public and private sectors. She studied public relations management, has a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Tartu and has attended the Estonian School of Diplomacy. In addition to her everyday work she has also been volunteering her time as part of the social media team for the Lennart Meri Conference for the last three years, while last year she also involved herself in the work of the Media Operations Centre for the ‘Siil’ military exercise and the press team for World Cleanup Day. She served as a liaison officer during Estonia’s presidency of the Council of the European Union as well.

“I like learning and developing as much as I can, which is why I like to spend any free time I get doing something useful,” Angelika explains. “Any time left over from my working day I mainly fill by taking part in activities of the Women’s Voluntary Defence Organisation.”

“Smooth, effective, innovative communication is vital to an organisation like ours, so we’re really glad to have Angelika joining the team,” said Christer Haglund, the director of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia.

The Nordic Council of Ministers, which is the official inter-governmental body for co-operation in the Nordic region, was founded in 1971. It opened its office in Estonia in spring 1991. The office brings together politicians, experts, officials and others from the Nordic countries, Estonia and the other Baltic States in areas of mutual interest: the green and creative economies, science and innovation, social welfare and culture. The aim is to boost the global competitiveness of the Nordic-Baltic region via the creation of and support for cooperation networks.
