Deadline for the joint Nordic-Baltic civil servants grant scheme is approaching

Wednesday, 22 February 2012

All civil servants and other staff in the public sector in the Nordic and Baltic countries that plan study visits, internships and networking in the Nordic-Baltic region can ease their budgets by applying for funding from the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration. But don't waste any time – the deadline is already March 30th!The joint Nordic-Baltic grant programme for public administration has been up and running since 2009. It has been well received as the number of applications has risen year by year. In 2011 the new electronic application system NB8-Grants was introduced and made the applying even easier, quicker and more comfortable; according to the feedback from applicants.

Stockholm County was one of the successful applicants last year. They initiated a project together with Tallinn and Riga with the focus on sustainability aspects in regional and sub regional spatial planning in all three countries – Sweden, Estonia and Latvia.

"There is an urgent need to adapt and shape the spatial planning at regional levels to rapidly changing social and natural environments," explains Lina Renfors, the International Coordinator of the County Administrative Board of Stockholm. The project has so far enabled knowledge transfer concerning sustainable spatial planning and measures taken to adapt and mitigate climate change.

The Estonian Ministry of Finance organised a study trip to Norway and Denmark in order to learn from their experiences in modernising the public sector. According to Anneli Peljo from the ministry, the knowledge is useful in reforming both the public administration law and the green book for personnel administration in the public sector in Estonia. Estonia is also considering the development of an online platform for public administration training, something which functions well in Norway and Denmark.
