Winning entry in short film competition combines architecture and contemporary dance

The winning outline of the architectural short film competition announced at the end of the Nordic Look urban space festival was Tantsivate Varjude Majad or 'Houses of the Dancing Shadows'. At the heart of the film is a crumbling example of leading Soviet-era architecture whose story is told through the medium of contemporary dance. The outline for the film was devised by Madis Ligema, Aleksandr Kheyfets, Mart Taniel and Eero Talvistu from OÜ Davai Laama.

The prize fund of the competition was valued at €1000, of which €500 was awarded to the producers of the winning entry. The short film based on the winning outline will receive its premiere in summer 2013.

The panel that selected the winner comprised Kristiina Sipelgas (chair, director of the Estonian Centre of Architecture), Ülar Mark (architect), Margit Mutso (Sirp newspaper), Raimo Jõerand (film expert, Estonian Film Foundation), Martin Voltri (designer), Jaak Kilmi (film director), Mait Laas (film director) and Eha Vain (cultural adviser to the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia).

The Nordic Look festival of urban space was held at Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn from 15-30 May 2012. It was organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia, the Estonian Centre of Architecture and Creative Estonia.

Organisation of the outline competition for architectural short films was supported by the Cultural Endowment.
