Twinned regions foster business environment

Thursday, 22 November 2012

A business-based study trip took place at the end of October which saw senior local government officials, development staff and representatives of colleges and vocational schools from Lääne-Viru County travel to their twin region of Jönköping in Sweden.

Joining them on the trip, which was supported via the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Business and Industry, were representatives of Lääne-Viru County's other twinned region, Dobele in Latvia. The joint application drafted by Lääne-Viru County Government included its twinned regions of Jönköping and Dobele and was designed to allow them to share their knowledge and experience, discover more about practices in fields of business and in the development of the business environment in Jönköping, learn new ways of developing their own business environments and reinforce mutual cooperation. The funding granted to the project was 70,000 Danish kroner, which was 50% of the total cost.

The experience gained in the course of the trip is planned to be implemented in the development of business regions and in attracting investors to these areas. Those behind the initiative expressed their hope that the knowledge and experience they had gained and the practical examples they had seen would help those who took part in the trip to present their own organisations and regions to investors and local entrepreneurs in an attractive and multi-faceted manner.

A more detailed account of the trip can be found here (in Estonian).
