A delegation from the Presidium of the Nordic Council is to meet with the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly in Riga on 18 January. At the meeting, the President of the Nordic Council will call on the Nordic and Baltic countries to follow-up on the work already done together on defence and security policy.

"Gade Birkav's 2010 report identified areas for closer co-operation on which foreign-policy dialogue might focus: civil security, defence co-operation and energy. It is time to follow up on his ideas, especially in defence and security policy," says the President of the Nordic Council, Marit Nybakk.

"The cost of military equipment combined with the current financial situation are putting pressure on all of our countries to work more closely together and to share the burden," she adds.
