Green Growth Forum Rohevik will be launched for the third year in a row on Thursday, 26 October, with the "Green Planning" conference at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tartu, and will continue with the "District Heating Potential and Applications" seminar on Friday, 27 October, at the Traditional Music Centre, Viljandi. The forum will bring together experts from Estonia and abroad to discuss the subjects of green urban planning and energy.

Presentations will be given by energy and environment experts from Estonia, Sweden, Denmark and Austria.

With the help of speakers from the Nordic countries and Estonia, Rohevik 2013 in Tartu will concentrate on the following problems:

  • What makes a city green?
  • Why and how to measure an ecological footprint?
  • How can skilful action change attitudes?
  • What are green buildings and who builds them/why are they not built?

Nordic speakers in Tartu:

  • Trine Pertou Mach (Nordic Innovation): What is Nordic Built Charter?
  • Muharrem Demirok, City of Linköping (Sweden): Policy and preconditions for sustainable neighbourhoods
  • Hans Gulliksson, Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden (Sweden): What makes a neighbourhood green?
  • Charlotta Faith-Ell, KTH (Sweden): How to plan green neighbourhoods?

RohevikPublic buildings and Soviet-time residential blocks use central heating, but providing it properly is expensive. There are not that many subsidised heating alternatives available, the private sector in not interested in the field and investment decisions are often left up to local government. Thus, organisers of this year's Rohevik decided to hold a seminar on district heating in Viljandi.

Nordic speakers in Viljandi:

  • Lars Toft Hansen, Thisted District Heating Company (Denmark): Thisted's Sustainability Efforts
  • Hans Gulliksson, Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden (Sweden): Energy cooperative – tool for rural energy management

The full programme of Rohevik 2013 and more information on the experts is available at the homepage of Rohevik.

Rohevik was launched in 2011 by the Nordic Council of Ministers' Office in Estonia to bring together experts, businessmen and politicians from the Nordic and Baltic countries, whose joint goal is to achieve a sustainable lifestyle in the Baltic Sea region.
