Denmark and Finland triumph at the Nordic Council Prize Gala

The Nordic Council of Ministers awarded five prizes at the Opera House in Oslo on the 30th of October. Prizes were awarded in five categories including literature, film, environment, music and youth literature. Denmark picked up three awards while the other two went to Finland.

The winners of the prestigious Nordic Council's prizes in 2013:

  • Literature: Kim Leine "Profeterne i Evighedsfjorden" (Denmark)
  • Film: Thomas Vinterberg "The Hunt) (Denmark)
  • Music: the violinist Pekka Kuusisto (Finland)
  • Children and Young People's Literature: Seita Vuorela and Jani Ikonen "Karikko" (Finland)
  • Environment: Selina Juul from the Movement Stop Wasting Food (Denmark)

This year's gala was extraordinary due to the new Nordic Council Children and Young People's Literature Prize being awarded. In addition, all the Nordic Council's 5 prizes were announced and presented together at the Nordic Council Prize Gala for the first time ever. All the nominees were present at the Opera House. It was also the first time the Prize Gala was broadcasted in all the Nordic countries – Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland.

The aim of the Nordic Council's prizes is to value environment and culture – the basis for co-operation between the Nordic countries.
