Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration open for applications

Monday, 04 October 2010

The joint Nordic-Baltic mobility programme for public administration underpins the development of Nordic-Baltic cooperation between ministries, regional and local authorities.

The programme gives financial support to civil servants and other staff in the public sector to carry out study visits, internships, training or network activities. It is now open for applications with the deadline 30 April 2009.

The aim of the programme is to facilitate the harmonisation of more efficient working methods for the public sector and to promote and strengthen cooperation, exchange of knowledge and networks between public administration structures on all administrative levels in the NB8 countries (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden).

Activities supported by the programme require participation of minimum three countries, of these minimum one Nordic and one Baltic. The programme covers up to 70 per cent of the costs related to travel, accommodation and network activities.

The annual budget of the programme is some 2 million DKK, which is financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the governments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Public Administration was launched together with the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Business and Industry (www.norden.lv) and the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture (www.kknord.org).

The joint mobility and network programmes are important instruments for developing the cooperation between the Nordic Council of Ministers and the governments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the coming years. The cooperation was initiated in 1991 and has in recent years developed into a political cooperation in areas of joint priorities and on an equal footing.

More information on the mobility programme can be found on the website of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia.

Information on the new guidelines for the Nordic Council of Ministers cooperation with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania 2009-2013 can be found on the website of the Nordic Council of Ministers (www.norden.org/internationellt/uk/riktl.asp?lang=&p_id=677).
